A Weekend Getaway
So a year ago today, Kristen and myself were heading home from Salish Lodge at Snoqualmie Falls. That is were we spent the night after we were done at our wedding reception. It was an awesome time...in fact, I thought it was so special, that we went back for our anniversary. Even though we didn't show up in a vintage Rolls Royce like last year, we were still able to make a grand entrance in a beautiful red 1999 Jetta VR6. Now I know what you are thinking, but trust me, rolling up on 16" stock rims and Pioneer Sound system, it really was just as special as being chauffeured in the RR. Anyways, we went up on friday night because of Kristen's work schedule, but we did not let the fact that we were there a day early detach us from having a great time. We had an amazing dinner that night, my steak litterally fell apart when I picked it up with a fork. Now, I had never seen this before so I took it as a good omen for the night. So fast forward to 7:30 am the next morning, we woke up to put on our bath robes to get a hot stone massage. Now I am not supposed to admit this due to me being a guy and all, but the massage was awesome. Guys, you don't have to admit it like myself, but at least let your significant other "drag" you in for a massage. During the hot stone massage the put stones in between your toes and on your forhead. Now who would of thought that that would ever feel good...but it did. After the massage we packed up our stuff and went to a Country Breakfast. Me and Kristen went into this meal expecting your typical continental breakfast, but we were wrong in so many ways. It ended up being a 4 course meal that extended over a 2 hour scheduled time period. Needless to say, It was amazing. All of this was so much fun, but I think the real reason is because we were there together. Kristen is such an awesome person. I have been so lucky to have snagged up such a good catch. Smart, hard working, beautiful, and caring are just a few of her traits, but I'm sure you all know that about her. It's not like she hides any of it from every person she meets. I have been so blessed with such a wonderfull wife and am looking forward to many many more years with her.

Five Years Ago Today...
Five years ago today, Nick and I were introducing ourselves to each other. It was 2003. We were freshmen at WSU. We talked, we laughed, we danced, he walked me home and asked for my number. Five years ago today, I met my husband. Half a decade has flown by. Without trying to sound too cheesy, he is the best friend and husband I could ever dream of. Here are some pics from the last 5 years. I freakin' love you babe!

New Years with the Honeycutts... and the Honeycutts

I am very behind on blogging, so I thought I'd at least post our New Years pics before February comes. This year I was lucky enough to have the night off, so our brother and sister-in-law came over to count down to 2008 with us. Fun times!
Can it seriously be 2008 already??!
I had to post this picture too. There's a neighborhood by Jeff and Sal's that goes all out with the Christmas lights. We went to drive through and look at all the lights one night, and there were these kids with a hot coacoa stand. It was the cutest thing. Apparently Santa even makes appearances on some nights, but we caught him after he'd taken off his belly. Love it.

My First New Year's Resolution...
A few weeks ago, I was "blog surfing" like I often do. I love photojournalistic photography- I love the little imperfections of real moments that are so enduring in a photograph. Anyways, I have a long list of my favorites photog sites, and often go from one blog to another to see what's new. For some reason this night, I started to get very frustrated. The more I looked at them, the more I kept asking myself, "Why aren't I doing this?". I have always wanted to be a photographer. Through high school and college, all my electives were photography- I even have enough credits to apply for a minor. I think this is why I like scrap booking so much too. In my high school diary I wrote that I am going to be a Spanish-speaking Nurse, Photographer, and Dancer. Well I minored in Spanish, I have a bachelor of science in Nursing, and I dance around our house a lot. :) Photographer is all that's left. Something just came over me while I was staring at those pictures and I said to myself, "I have to try". I have my education- I have a great job that pays by bills and that I truly love... but I don't have just one dream. Why can't I do it all? I yelled for Nick and started talking to him about it. I was actually a little nervous about doing this... I'm not sure why. But one of the things I love about Nick is that he always believes in me. He didn't even bat an eye when I blurted out all I wanted to do. He said, "Great... and you should start a photo blog, and you should talk to this person, and then you should....etc". He never fails to have faith in me when I don't always have it in myself. You have to understand, this is very hard to put myself out there like this- open to criticism and wide open to failure. If you know me at all you know that I'm a perfectionist. Always have been. I think Myca wrote, "If I can't do something well, I probably won't even try". Bingo. (One more reason why we're such good friends. haha) This is totally me, so one of my New Year's Resolutions is to put myself out there and try what I love. I realize that one more photographer is probably one of the last things the world need- it seems like everyone and their dog is one these days :) but I also think I owe it to myself to take a shot at something I love. I don't want to look back and say, "Why didn't I just go for it?" So here it is. I am very aware I still have a lot to learn and a ways to go... but I am loving the feel of being behind the camera again. Alright world, take your best shot- my photoblog is posted in the column to the left, or you can go directly to khoneycuttgallery.blogspot.com
